Missions
In order to assist and improve the health care in the Kingdom of Eswatini, TMM has the following achievements:
1. Clinical service: The base of TMM is located in the Mbabane Government Hospital (MGH), the top government hospital in the capital city Mbabane. From 2009, more than 200 medical staffs have been in TMM. Currently, the TMM has specialty clinics in MGH and Mankayane Government Hospital for the referral from countrywide. More than 130,000 patients have been treated. With the assistance of Taiwan Embassy, the TMM runs a monthly free clinic in remote regions of the Kingdom even during the COVID-19 pandemic period. TMM provides free medical service and free medicine for the swazi people resided in the rural area where lack of medical resources. There are 200-300 people on average in each visit.
2. Medical education: With cooperation with Ministry of Health (MOH), TMM actively participates the medical education for the medical practitioners in the Kingdom of Eswatini. The six-year plan (2019-2024) for the medical education consists of one-month clinical orientation course for the internship training, weekly case conferences and seminars, workshops for clinical skills and clinical reasoning, and symposiums with highlighted topics. In addition, we provide Taiwan experience to help the Eswatini Medical and Dental Council (EMDC) establish the medical accreditation system, pre-registration examination (PRES).
3. Public health: Since 2009, Professor Fan in TMU has led a team with TMM for the parasite prevention plan in the Kingdom of Eswatini. Through the years of research, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of Taiwan's parasite team, local training programs for malaria diagnosis are developed. The program targets focus on specialist teaching, short-term specialist teaching, intensive guidance courses, intern seminars and public health programs, etc.
4. Epidemic Prevention: During the COVID-19 high peak pandemic period in the Kingdom, TMM with TMUH doctors help the communicable disease prevention, infection control in the hospital setting, respirator training, and donation of equipment and medical supplies.
